2017 Easter and Carnival Judicial Holiday Schedule

Chief Justice Rhys S. Hodge wishes to advise the general public and members of the Virgin Islands Bar that the Judicial Branch of the Virgin Islands will recognize the following holiday schedule for the 2017 Easter and Carnival season.

The Supreme and Superior Courts of the Virgin Islands will be closed in both judicial districts on the following days in observance of the Easter holidays:
 Thursday, April 13, 2017 - Holy Thursday
 Friday, April 14, 2017 - Good Friday
 Monday, April 17, 2017 - Easter Monday

Additionally, employees of the Judicial Branch have been granted dministrative leave for Carnival 2017.

Accordingly, both the Supreme and the Superior Courts of the Virgin Islands will operate abbreviated schedules from Wednesday April 26, 2017, to Friday, April 28, 2017.

The following schedule will be recognized:
DISTRICT OF ST. THOMAS/ST. JOHN
 Wednesday, April 26, 2017
Both Courts will close from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.
……. (Food, Arts & Crafts Fair Day)
 Thursday, April 27, 2017
Both Courts will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
……. (J’ouvert)
 Friday, April 28, 2017
Both Courts will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
……. (Children’s Parade Day)


Supreme Court: All filings for the Supreme Court will continuously be accepted electronically via the Court’s electronic filing system (“VISCEFS”) and will also be accepted via a secured lockbox at the Court’s facilities located at No. 161B Crown Bay for non-electronic filers.

Superior Court: All previously calendared matters and Advice of Rights will be heard as scheduled. All filings for the Superior Court will be accepted in the Clerk’s Office on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, utilizing limited staff. However, on Thursday, April 27, 2017 and April 28, 2017, filings (including those for the Magistrate Division) will be accepted via a secured lock box on the first floor, East Wing entrance of the Superior Court's premises located at the Alexander A. Farrelly Justice Center.

DISTRICT OF ST. CROIX
 The Supreme and Superior Courts will be closed on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Supreme Court: All filings for the Supreme Court will continuously be accepted electronically via the Court’s electronic filing system (“VISCEFS”) and will also be accepted via a secured lockbox at the Court’s facilities located at No. 18 Strand Street, Frederiksted for non-electronic filers.

Superior Court: Advice of Rights will be heard as scheduled. Filings for the Superior Court will be accepted via a secured “lock box” on the first floor of the R.H. Amphlett Leader Justice Complex.

The Supreme and Superior Courts will resume regular office hours on Monday, May 1, 2017. The Judicial Branch of the Virgin Islands wishes everyone a safe, happy and enjoyable Carnival!
